How We Work

No mystery process. No account managers. Just me, building your site, keeping you in the loop.

The Process

1

We Have a Proper Chat

Usually over a Virtual Cuppa (video call) or in person if you are local to Wakefield. I ask a lot of questions. Some of them will make you think. That is the point.

I need to understand your business, your customers, what frustrates them, and what you want the site to actually do. Not just "look professional" - what is the job?

2

I Do My Research

I look at your competitors, your industry, and what your customers are actually searching for. I use AI to speed up the deep research, but I review everything myself.

If you need a brand book or formal marketing strategy, I connect you with my marketing partner Tom Burns. We work together so you get specialist input where it matters.

3

I Write a Detailed Brief

This document outlines exactly what is included, what is not, and how many rounds of changes you get. It is our agreement on what we are building.

This is where I have learned to be strict. Scope creep is real, and it hurts both of us. The brief keeps us honest.

4

You Get a Fixed Quote

No hourly rates that spiral. No "we will see how it goes". The price I quote is the price you pay for exactly what is in the brief.

If you want to add things later, we discuss it separately. No surprises, no awkward conversations.

5

I Build It

I write the code by hand. No templates, no page builders. Every line is mine, which means I know exactly how it works and can fix anything.

You get a private link to watch the build progress. I check in regularly. If something is not working, you tell me early, not at the end.

6

You Review and We Tweak

Two rounds of changes included in every quote. This is for tweaks, not complete rewrites. The brief keeps us focused.

I am not precious about my work. If something is wrong, say so. But also trust the process - you hired me because I know what I am doing.

7

Launch and Support

I handle the technical launch - domain, hosting, SSL, all the boring stuff. You do not need to worry about it.

After launch, I do not disappear. I offer hosting, maintenance, and content updates at £40/hour. No monthly retainer - you only pay when there is something to do.

What I Need From You

I am good at what I do, but I am not a mind reader. Here is what makes a project successful:

Be Honest About Your Budget

I can work with most budgets, but I need to know what it is. If you have £1,000, I will suggest a landing page, not a 10-page site.

Give Me Content (or Tell Me You Cannot)

If you have text and images, brilliant. If not, tell me early so I can quote for creating it. Do not promise content then go quiet for weeks.

Be Available for Feedback

I need you to review things and respond. A project that should take 3 weeks takes 3 months if you go quiet for days at a time.

Trust the Process (But Speak Up)

I have built a lot of sites. I know what works. But if something feels wrong, say so immediately. Do not wait until launch day.

Web Apps and Complex Builds

For projects like Cloud Nine Play Cafe (custom booking platform with capacity management and payments) and D.E.S.T Football Coaching (digital academy and session management), the process is similar but with more planning:

  • More detailed technical specification before we start
  • Regular check-ins during development (weekly, not ad-hoc)
  • Testing phase with real users before launch
  • Ongoing support and iteration after launch

Important: Web applications are not static websites. They use databases, APIs, payment gateways, and custom functionality that needs ongoing care. Unlike a brochure site that sits unchanged for months, a web app needs monitoring, security updates, and occasional tweaks. This is why we offer dedicated care plans for web applications - they need attention to keep running smoothly.

Sound Fair?

No obligation chat. I will tell you if I am not the right fit. I would rather be honest than take on a project that goes wrong.
